Registration under way for Soaring Wings events

The Soaring Wings of Conway Half Marathon will mark its 10th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 21. The race benefits Soaring Wings Ranch, a Christ-centered home for children in need.

Marla Watson and Amanda Castillo serve as race co-directors for the event, which begins and ends at the McGee Center in West Conway.

More than 18,000 have registered since 1997 for the event. Since its inception, this event has allowed both walkers and runners to train harder, run farther and push their limits – all for a great cause.

The Soaring Wings of Conway Expo will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Conway Regional Health and Fitness Center. In addition to packet pick up, individuals can shop for the latest running gear from vendors. For more information on becoming an exhibitor, visit swmarathon.com/expo-vendors/.

The Kids Run for Kids Half Marathon and Fun Run will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the expo.

The online half marathon registration fee is $75. The 10K registration fee is $40. Online registration will close at midnight Monday, Oct. 16. There will be a limited number of registrations available at the expo, if the race is not sold out.

Amanda and Marla are asking participants to consider raising more money for Soaring Wings through the Winged Warrior program.

“Be brave by finishing your running goal and making every mile count even more for the children of Soaring Wings Ranch!” said Amanda.

“You encourage them to be brave when you run as a Winged Warrior.”

A variety of prizes will be awarded to those raising funds for the ranch.

“Check out the perks for your fundraising efforts,” said Marla.

At press time, the top five fundraisers were: Nathan Thomas, Janelle Gregerson-Varnell, Maranda Harris, Sharon Giblin and Jessica Rohlman.

Now is also a good time for individuals and groups to register as volunteers for this year’s event. “We need volunteers to start signing up!” urged Amanda.

TLC Pediatrics is the sponsor for the half marathon and Kids Run for Kids. Crain Automotive is the sponsor for the 10K and expo. 501 LIFE is the media sponsor.
