Little Rock Men’s Basketball sweeps OVC weekly honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Little Rock Men’s Basketball swept this week’s Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors. Jamir Chaplin was named the Co-Player of the Week and Co-Newcomer of the Week, while Jaylen Crocker-Johnson was named Freshman of the Week.

Chaplin earned his first Player of the Week honor and second Newcomer of the Week honor this season. The Norcross, Ga.-native opened conference action averaging 27 points and eight rebounds in two games while shooting 70.8% from the field and 85.7% from the free throw line. 

In the win over Tennessee Tech, Chaplin led all scorers with 25 points, going 8-of-14 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. He also contributed seven rebounds and two assists and led the team in steals with three. At Tennessee State, Chaplin recorded a career-high 29 points, going almost perfectly from the field at 9-of-10 and from the free throw line going 10-of-11. He scored 24 of his 29 points in the first half while going 8-of-8 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also led the team in rebounds with nine. 

For the season, Chaplin leads the team with 12 double-digit scoring games and six 20-plus scoring games.  

He is the first Trojan this season to record back-to-back 20-plus scoring games. This is Crocker-Johnson’s third Freshman of the Week honor this season. The San Antonio, Texas, native opened OVC play averaging 14.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 46.2% from the field. 

In the win over Tennessee Tech, he scored 13 points and led the team in rebounds with nine, and in assists with four. Against Tennessee State, Crocker-Johnson recorded a career-high 16 points, going 7-of-13 from the field. He also contributed six rebounds and led the team with a career-high three blocks. 

For the season, Crocker-Johnson has recorded seven double-digit scoring games, including back-to-back this week.
