Harding men third at DBU Classic; Tandy finishes fourth

DALLAS – Shooting 1-under 69, his third round of par or better at this week’s DBU Classic, Harding senior Sam Tandy earned his fourth top-five finish in five events this fall.

Harding’s five-man team tied for third in the 14-team event, shooting 11-over 851, tied for the third-best tournament score in program history.

Tandy, a native of Fayetteville, Arkansas, finished the 54-hole event at 3-under 207 to tie for fourth place. He was the individual medalist the last time out at the NCAA Regional Preview, placed third at the Battle for the Belt and tied for fifth at the season-opening GAC Preview.

Tandy has finished all five tournaments under par.

Harding’s second finisher was sophomore Dennis Staykov, who shot 1-over 211 to tie for 11th. It was his third top-20 finish in five events.

Junior Finlay Cummings turned in his best finish of the season. He shot 2-over 212 to place 13th. His score of 212 was his career best in a 54-hole tournament.

Senior Leo Maciejek (t-49th, 224) and freshman Jose Manuel Peralta (t-67th, 229) rounded out Harding’s team members.

Harding’s top individual finisher was freshman Jose Ignacio Arzu Garcia. He shot 6-over 216 to finish tied for 19th, his first career top-20 finish. Junior Wilmer Haakansson tied for 36th at 10-over 220, and senior Wilf Rush tied for 67th at 19-over 229.
