First half scoring barrage carries Mustangs to win

WALNUT RIDGE – Looking to bounce back from their first American Midwest Conference loss of the season, Central Baptist College women’s soccer was at WBU Soccer Field this afternoon for a match with the Eagles of Williams Baptist. CBC (5-8-3, 3-1-2 AMC) scored four times in the first half and cruised to a 5-1 win over WBU (0-13-1, 0-6-1 AMC).

Vilonia native Bayleigh Williams had a pair of assists.

Vitoria Loiola had a brace while the Mustangs also received goals from Annesta Richards, Lexie Sengmanivong and Sierra Victory, for the latter two it was the first goal of their career. Bayleigh Williams also had a pair of assists and Bailey Walerczyk picked up her fifth win of the season in net.

GAME FLOW

Loiola opened the scoring in the 12th minute when she received a pass from Williams and slotted it past the keeper to give CBC the lead. The Mustangs extended the lead in the 39th minute on a free kick by Richards to make it 2-0 and less than two minutes later, Loiola’s second made it 3-0. Sengmanivong’s goal came just before halftime and put the Mustangs up comfortably 4-0 at halftime.

WBU’s goal came two minutes into the second half and the score stayed at 4-1 until Victory cashed in a pass from Williams in the 86th minute to give the Mustangs a four-goal lead back.

MUSTANG NOTES

  • Loiola now has 11 goals on the season and is just the third player ever to crack double-figures in goals scored joining Laura Hudson in 2007 and Tarra Hendricks in 2014
  • CBC defeated Williams Baptist for the sixth time in 10 meetings and the fourth time in the last five meetings
  • The Mustangs improved to 3-0 this season when they score at least three goals and 41-7-1 all-time
  • The five goals put CBC at 21 this season, a mark that they have hit for the third time in the last four years
  • This was the 11th time CBC has scored at least four goals in a half and the second time this season
  • Williams extended her matches played record, participating in her 80th match today
  • Loiola is now tied with Becca Elrod for fifth on the all-time goals scored list with 14
  • Williams moved into a tie with Ashley English for second on the all-time assists list today with 12
  • Loiola moved into third place on the all-time points list with 39
  • Walerczyk is now just seven minutes shy of becoming the first women’s soccer keeper to play 3,000 minutes in a career

The Mustangs wrap up the regular season on Saturday when Missouri Baptist comes to town for a match at Centennial. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Senior Day festivities will follow the women’s match.
