CBC volleyball schedule released

Central Baptist College Head Volleyball Coach Stephanie Irwin has announced the 2020 fall schedule for the Mustangs. The season includes seven home matches and 29 matches overall after a record-setting 2019 campaign.

“I’m looking forward to the fall 2020 season with even more anticipation than last year,” said Irwin. “Now that I’ve gotten my feet wet with what this conference looks like and what the non-conference competition looks like, we’re hungry to be in-season once again. We’ve set up some tough competition this season to be pushed physically and mentally, which is what we’re looking forward to this season to test us and grow us.

“We scheduled two matches against the 2019 NCCAA national champions, College of the Ozarks. Those matches with C of O along with our conference matches are what we are looking forward to the most. With me entering my second season as the head coach, I’m still building a legacy and trying to establish this program with a great group of kids – and my recruits coming in the fall gives me a lot of excitement for just that. With the coronavirus keeping everyone out of the gym, I’m very eager to get back when it’s safe for summer open gyms and practices to start. Our team for this fall is stacked and ready to work hard! I’m ready to see how many more records we can break this year.”

The season begins on Aug. 22 when the Mustangs head to Oklahoma City for a tri-match at Mid-America Christian. CBC will play Dallas Christian in their season-opener and follow that with a match against the host school later that day. The only other match that month is Aug. 28 against crosstown rival Hendrix at Grove Gymnasium.

September begins with a home opener on Sept. 1 against Philander Smith at 6 p.m. which is followed that next Saturday, Sept. 5, by a tri-match at home against Crowley’s Ridge and Mississippi University for Women. The Mustangs then head on the road for their next six matches, beginning on Sept. 8 in Marshall, Texas, against East Texas Baptist which is followed by a tri-match at Centenary in Shreveport, La., on Sept 12 where the Mustangs will face the host school followed by Dallas Christian. The final two games of the road trip are the first two American Midwest Conference games for CBC against Hannibal-LaGrange on Sept. 18 and St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Sept. 19. The final non-AMC home match for the Mustangs is on Sept. 22 against College of the Ozarks before CBC plays their first AMC home game against William Woods on the Sept. 26. The final match of the month is Sept. 29 in Paragould against Crowley’s Ridge.
