CBC starts fast and cruises to victory

HANNIBAL, Mo. — Stepping back into American Midwest Conference play on Dec. 13, Central Baptist College men’s basketball took on the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange at the Mabee Sports Complex. CBC (9-4, 3-1 AMC) started fast, leading 37-14 at the half and cruising to a 70-44 win over HLGU (5-6, 1-3 AMC).

Jalen Adams was one of two Mustangs in double figures with 16 points while Braylon Steen registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while James Moore led the way with 12 boards and also blocked five shots to set a record (more on that later). The Mustangs dominated in the paint, outrebounding the Trojans 45-18 while outscoring them 36-16 in the paint and never trailing with a lead of 30 late in the contest.

GAME NOTES

  • Adams’ 16 points gave him 905 for his career and moved him past Michael Holder into seventh place on the all-time list. He needs 95 points to become just the sixth player in program history with 1,000
  • Adams also made seven field goals in the contest to move into eighth place all-time with 314 all-time, eight behind Victor Dukes for seventh
  • Adams also canned two threes in the game and now sits in fifth place all-time in three-point field goals made with 155
  • Moore’s five blocks marked the fifth time in his career that he has blocked five shots, surpassing Carl Corman for the most five-block games in program history
  • Moore also moved into a tie for fourth on the all-time list with 72 career blocks
  • The Mustangs are now 14-1 all-time against HLGU and have won 12 in a row
  • CBC is now 8-2 when leading at the half this season and 165-38 dating back to 2009-10
  • At the current pace, the Mustangs are on pace for their best defensive season by points allowed all-time, averaging just 63.5 points allowed per game through the first 13 games this season
  • Steen’s double-double was the second by a Mustang this season
