Carmen Gunn scores golden goal for Lady Bison soccer

SEARCY — It took 1:27 seconds into the first overtime for Carmen Gunn to score the game-winning goal over Ouachita Baptist Tuesday night at the Stevens Soccer Complex. Harding won the thriller 3-2.

It was the Lady Bisons first win in overtime since defeating Wayne State 1-0 to start the season in 2019.

It was Harding’s second overtime game this season. The Lady Bisons tied East Central 2-2 earlier this season.

Harding improves to 6-10-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the GAC.

Ouachita Baptist falls to 8-6-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the GAC.

GOALS

Ouachita Baptist 1, Harding 0 – 44th minute – Alexis Perry sent in a cross from the right side that found Jaymee Dotson for her sixth goal of the season.

Harding 1, Ouachita Baptist 1 – 59th minute – Emma Roberts sent in a cross from the right side to Parker Smitherman who found the back of the net for the second time this season.

Harding 2, Ouachita Baptist 1 – 80th minute – Samantha Rupe sent a throughball up the right side to Emma Roberts who scored her team-leading 17th goal of the season.

Harding 2, Ouachita Baptist 2 – 83rd minute – Alexis Perry got her second assist in the game when she found Sydni Perry for her first goal of the season.

Harding 3, Ouachita Baptist 2 – 92nd minute – Melissa Ventura took a shot that rebounded to Carmen Gunn for the game-winner. It was her sixth goal of the season.

STATS

Harding took 29 shots, led by Emma Roberts who had eight. The Lady Bisons had 14 shots on goal.

Ouachita Baptist had nine shots, led by Jaymee Dotson and Gracen turner who each had three.

Payton Milby had three saves in the game and played the full time in goal for Harding.

Harding will play its final regular season game at 7 p.m. tonight when it hosts East Central at the Stevens Soccer Complex. Before the game, Harding will recognize five seniors for their contributions to the Lady Bison soccer program.
