Wastewater Plant Operator wins safety award

CONWAY – Conway Corp recently honored Wastewater Plant Operator Lance Harwell with the company’s annual Safety Leadership Award. The Safety Leadership Award recognizes an employee who inspires, improves and maintains best practices in safety. Harwell was nominated by multiple co-workers for his “willingness to answer any questions or concerns” and his attention to safety issues and protocols.

Lance Harwell

Harwell is an active member of Conway Corp’s safety committee. According to multiple nominations, he communicates concerns and helps keep others in his area informed. He submits near misses and addresses them efficiently. His attention to safety issues and concerns is noticeable even outside his department. He has made it his mission to make sure his co-workers are always in the know and heard when it comes to safety.

“Lance is always willing to take the extra step to ensure that safety is a top priority for whatever task is being completed at the plant and also take the time to teach and promote safety to the new team members,” Water Systems Manager Lee Tedford said. “Safety is a core value at Conway Corp. Lance has shown a great initiative at demonstrating this value not only for himself but also for his co-workers.”

Though he does this daily, Lance said he was still surprised when he won the award.

“I actually was surprised to know I won the safety award because I didn’t realize my co-workers noticed my safety precautions enough to vote for me,” Harwell said. “My favorite part of my career at Conway Corp is the people I’ve met and friendships I’ve made.”

Harwell joined the company in July 2006 as an operator apprentice and was promoted to a plant operator in 2009.
