Warriors drop heartbreaker to Sewanee

CONWAY — Hendrix’s explosive start to the 2023 season sputtered on Saturday as they dropped a heartbreaking 20-19 loss to the Sewanee Tigers.

The Warriors gave up an astonishing 10 sacks, and while Buniff recorded 325 yards through the air, there was very little time in which the sophomore could move around comfortably in the pocket.

Two blocked PATs and two missed field goals left valuable points on the field, and Hendrix could never quite overcome the hole they put themselves in.

Kanyn Utley had another monster day on the outside, snagging 8 balls for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. Freshman Peyton Wingfield picked up where he left off last week, totaling 90 yards on 7 catches with a touchdown grab.

On defense, the Warriors held Sewanee to just 308 yards of offense and gave up just 13 of the Tigers’ 20 points. However, Sewanee rushed for 230 yards, many of them coming on back-breaking times for the Blackshirt defense.

Hendrix drops to 2-3 (2-1 Southern Athletic Association) and will enter into the bye week as they look to regroup and get healthy for the run-in. The Warriors will be back in action on Oct. 14 as they head to Birmingham to take on Birmingham-Southern.
