CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas Athletics Department has announced the seven-member class that will be inducted into the UCA Sports Hall of Fame on October 24, 2026. The induction brunch will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Center ballroom and the pinning ceremony will be on the field at Estes Stadium prior to the kickoff of the football game vs. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at 4:00 p.m. The class features standout student-athletes, a longtime supporter of UCA Athletics, and a distinguished coach whose contributions helped shape the history and tradition of UCA athletics.

The 2026 Hall of Fame class includes Kelsie Wilson (Armstrong) (Softball), Lauren Merritt (Creed) (Cross Country), Mike Lovelady (Football), Billy McFarland (Track & Cross Country), Danny Lyons (Football/Track), David Easley (Football Coach), and David McCollum (Meritorious Service).
Kelsie Wilson (Armstrong): Softball
One of the most dominant pitchers in program history, Wilson established herself as a cornerstone of UCA softball from 2009-13. The 2013 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year earned First Team All-Southland Conference honors in 2012 and 2013 and was named to the 2013 Southland Conference All-Tournament Team.
Wilson recorded 10 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors during her career and was named NFCA All-Region Second Team. She threw two career no-hitters and remains the only pitcher in school history to surpass 1,000 career strikeouts.
Her name appears throughout the UCA record book, ranking among the top 10 in 15 career pitching categories while holding the No. 1 spot in 10 of those categories, including career wins, saves, appearances, games started, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched and strikeouts.
Lauren Merritt (Creed): Cross Country
Merritt was one of the most accomplished distance runners in UCA history during her career from 2004-07. A four-year letter winner, she earned All-Gulf South Conference honors and later collected multiple All-Conference and All-Region accolades.
She continually rewrote the UCA record book, breaking the school record in the women’s 5K three times and setting new standards in the 6K, mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. She broke her own school records five consecutive weeks in Cross Country. Merritt earned All-Region honors at the NCAA South Regional and helped lead the Bears to NCAA Championship competition.
In 2007, she was named UCA Female Student-Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year while serving as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Mike Lovelady: Football
A standout defensive player for the Bears from 1989-94, Lovelady earned All-America honors in 1991 and was selected to the NCAA Division II All-Star Game in 1994.
A four-time All-Conference performer, Lovelady was named the 1993 Homecoming MVP and remains among the program’s all-time leaders in several defensive categories. He ranks seventh in tackles for loss, third in quarterback sacks, first in quarterback hurries and second in blocked kicks in UCA history.
Billy McFarland: Track & Cross Country
McFarland excelled in both cross country and track and field from 1986-89, lettering four years in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.
He qualified for national competition in track in 1987 and in cross country in 1988. McFarland earned All-Conference honors in both sports and posted seven first-place finishes in the 1,500 meters during the 1989 season.
A dedicated educator after his athletic career, McFarland earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCA and remains one of the top distance runners of his era.
Danny Lyons: Football/Track
Lyons was a versatile two-sport athlete for the Bears from 1971-74, earning four football letters and three track letters during his collegiate career.
A team captain on the 1974 football squad, Lyons set a school record with eight interceptions during the 1973 season and still shares the program record for interception returns for touchdowns with two. He earned All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference honorable mention honors in both 1973 and 1974.
David Easley: Football Coach
Easley served as UCA’s defensive coordinator from 1976-79 and helped guide the Bears through one of the most successful stretches in program history.
His defenses helped produce three conference championships and a national runner-up finish in 1976. That season, UCA fielded the nation’s top-ranked defense, allowing just 59 rushing yards and fewer than 90 passing yards per game on average.
Easley later enjoyed success as a high school head coach and athletic director in Texas, earning Coach of the Year honors and leading highly successful programs while mentoring numerous standout players.
David McCollum: Posthumous Honor for Meritorious Service
For almost three decades, McCollum chronicled the history of UCA Athletics through his work with the Log Cabin Democrat. His coverage has spanned multiple eras of Bear athletics, including the program’s transitions from the NAIA to NCAA Division II and later to NCAA Division I.
McCollum has personally covered hundreds of football games, more than 1,600 basketball contests and numerous postseason appearances across multiple sports. His work has earned more than 150 writing awards, including Arkansas Sportswriter of the Year honors in 2009 and the Buddy Sutton Meritorious Service Award from the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Through decades of storytelling, McCollum has documented generations of UCA student-athletes, coaches and historic moments, preserving the legacy of Bear athletics for future generations.
The seven inductees will be formally honored during the University of Central Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Weekend in the Fall of 2026.
