Soaring Wings Half Marathon, 10K set on Saturday in Conway

The 11th Annual Soaring Wings Half Marathon & 10K is planned Saturday in Conway.

Race Week is here for the 11th Annual Soaring Wings Half Marathon & 10K planned Saturday in Conway.

The event benefits Soaring Wings Ranch, a Christian organization that has two homes for girls and one for boys and one home for infants and toddlers.

Marla Watson and Amanda Castillo serve as co-race directors.

The 2018 Soaring Wings Half Marathon is dedicated in memory & in celebration of Steve Zimmer – someone who always went the extra mile for others. This year’s theme, #GoTheExtraMile, is a tribute to Steve.

TLC Pediatrics is the half marathon sponsor as well as the sponsor for Kids Run for Kids.

The 10K sponsor is Incite Rehab and Reliance, which is also the sponsor for the Family Fun Zone after the race.

The Official Race Nutrition and Pacer Sponsor is The Sporty Runner. Other sponsors include: The PI Company, Conway Women’s Health Center, BancorpSouth, First Security Bank and Centennial Bank. 501 LIFE is the official media sponsor.

SOARING WINGS EXPO

The Soaring Wings Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center, 700 Salem Road. In addition to packet pick-up, participants can shop from local sponsor The Sporty Runner at the expo. Other sponsors will also be on hand.

Official logo wear will only be available at the expo, and limited quantities are available.

the Kids Run for Kids Half Marathon and Fun Run, sponsored by TLC Pediatrics @ 5 p.m., at Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center.The Kids Run for Kids Half Marathon and Fun Run is at 5 p.m. Friday at the fitness center. The events will begin in the south parking lot and continue on the Tucker Creek Trail.

RACE DAY

The half marathon and 10K will start and finish at the McGee Community Center, 3800 College Ave. in West Conway. The course will have a rolling closure of 3.5 hours from the half marathoners start. The Conway Police Department and tons of volunteers will be along the course. Family and friends are invited to gather along the route to cheer.

Schedule:

5:30 a.m. – Packet pick up begins
6:45 a.m. – Packet pick up CLOSES; pre-race announcements begin
6:55 a.m. – 10K starts
7:10 a.m. – Half marathon starts by waves
9:30 a.m. – Awards ceremony for 10K, followed by half marathon awards
10:45 a.m. – Half marathon course closes (rolling closure)

PARKING
VIP parking, which requires a VIP parking permit, will be on the north side of the McGee Center. Please enter the McGee Center from Prince Street.

Parking is available at Jim Stone Elementary (4255 College Ave.) and at Woodland Heights Baptist Church at Prince Street and Hogan Lane (4215 Prince St). Those attending are asked not to park in the grass and avoid the roped off area at the church.

SECURITY

Safety is a top priority!
SPECTATORS will not be allowed to bring bags onto College Avenue past College/Hogan, or onto Prince Street past Prince/Hogan. NO LARGE BAGS WILL BE ALLOWED onto the McGee Center property.
ONLY PARTICIPANTS will be allowed to carry small bags to the McGee Center before the race that they plan to check at Bag Check inside the McGee Center. (Please walk to the McGee Center using the Prince Street entrance if you plan to check a bag. Also, please use the drawstring bag you will be given at packet pick up or one like it. No duffle bags or large backpacks.)
ONLY PARTICIPANTS will be allowed inside the McGee Center on Saturday morning before the race. Spectators will be required to stay outside the McGee Center.
