Sacred Heart celebrates inaugural cross country team

The historic first race of the new Sacred Heart Cross Country team was a success.

Junior Ethan Croswell and freshman Emily Andrews comprise the inaugural team that recently ran at the Minuteman XC Invitational meet in Little Rock.

Twenty-seven teams representing 1A-7A schools from all over the state competed in the 5000m/5K event on the fairways of the Western Hills Golf Course. Ethan finished with a time of 21:31 and was 145th out of 220 racers in the high school boys division. Emily finished 65th out of a field of 159 racers in the high school girls division with a time of 25:06. Team rankings are awarded to only teams of five or more.

"Our program is new and I am excited to get it off the ground. It is just another way to increase the athletic opportunities at Sacred Heart,” said Coach Jeff Croswell. “We hope that word gets out and we continue to grow. Having enough members to compete at the team level is the next goal. Cross Country is a great competitive way to help athletes of all sports improve their strength and endurance.”

Jeff brings not only his love of running to the position, but past AAA coaching experience for Conway Public Schools as head coach of high school girls soccer and taking the high school boys soccer team to a state championship title in 2004.
