Person of the Month: Andy Woody

City: Searcy.

Work: City of Searcy Fire Department.

Community activities: I regularly attend meetings of various civic groups to learn what is important to their organizations and how the fire department may be able to help.  I also enjoy going with my family to the numerous wonderful events held in Searcy such as Beats and Eats, the food truck festival, the Farmer’s Market, Get Down Downtown, and many others.  My family and I also love to attend and show our support for neighboring community events such as those held at volunteer fire departments or town gatherings.

Church activities: My family and I attend New Life Church in Searcy.  In addition to attending the wonderful services I also volunteer with the safety and security team and participate with the wide range of family activities regularly held and life groups.

Family: My wife, Danna, and I have been married for nine years and have two daughters, Leah 7 and Lily 5. Both attend Westside Elementary School in Searcy.

Education: Associate degree in fire science technology, a bachelor’s degree in business management, and a master’s degree in administration.

Most enjoyed weekend activity: I love to hunt and fish, and there are plenty of opportunities for that. I probably most enjoy getting out with my family and discovering something new. We enjoy geocaching, because the girls love to explore it is a great way to get outside and do something different and interesting.

No. 1 vacation spot: Lake Okeechobee in Okeechobee, Fla., which typically leads to a trip to Disney about an hour north!

Favorite place in Arkansas: The City of Searcy of course! There are so many things to enjoy here in town and around the area. I cannot think of a better place to raise a family.

What do you love about living in the 501: I love that everyone is so friendly and welcoming. From the second we arrived here we have been accepted as family and have a circle of true friends that come from church, the fire department, other fire departments, Searcy residents, residents of other communities, and the school district. Like I said earlier, I cannot imagine a better place to live and raise a family.

Is there anything else you would like to include: I am blessed and incredibly honored to be here. I look forward to working with the community to look for creative ways to integrate the fire department into the daily lives of the citizens and visitors to the City of Searcy to enhance safety, reduce risk and to help ensure the area remains a wonderful place to live and visit.
