Morrilton High announces homecoming court

The Morrilton High School Devil Dog Football team will take on the Vilonia Eagles Friday night, Oct. 18, in this year’s homecoming game.

This year’s theme is “Devil Dogs: We Always Guard the Yard.”

The traditional homecoming pageant will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Morrilton Junior High School gym followed by the pep rally. The pre-game show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Devil Dog Stadium and will include the announcement of the homecoming court.

The 2013 homecoming queen is senior Hart LaShaye Beijen, daughter of Brian and Patti Beijen. She has one sister, Breanna. Hart is a member of the Beta Club, math club, science club, Spanish club, Student Council, and plays volleyball and softball.  She is on the honor roll, is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, and attended Arkansas Girls State last year.  

Hart is also a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she is active in the youth group. She loves spending time with friends and family, lake days and playing sports with two amazing teams.  

Hart is appreciative of the opportunity to represent her senior class. “It’s not often that a grade is as close as we are,” she said. “I am so lucky to be a part of the class of 2014. I’m so proud of the leaders and role models we have already become, and I truly believe we are still making our mark on MHS.”  She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #10 Reese Heidenreich (selected for the 501 Football Team) and #26 John Cheek.

Senior honor maid Miriam Alvarez is a daughter of Araceli and Osvaldo Alvarez. She has two brothers, Oswaldo and Robin Alvarez. She is a member of the Spanish club, recycling club, math club, photography club and Skills USA. She has played soccer for four years, and was on the 2012 MHS Activities Court.

Miriam attends Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She considers herself blessed just to be a part of the Devil Dog Nation, and says, “Beat ‘em, Dogs!” She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #6 Christian Bingham and #2 Nick Reed.

Chloe Elizabeth Vaught, senior honor maid, is a daughter of Janel Tilley and Chris Vaught. She has two sisters and four brothers. Chloe plays volleyball and softball, and is a member of the Beta Club, science club, student council and Skills USA. She was a junior class maid last year.  

Chloe attends Antioch Baptist Church and is a member of the youth group. Her plans for the future include attending Arkansas State University and majoring in chemistry or biology for a career in the medical field. “I would like to thank dad, mom, Myron, Mawmaw and Tonya for always being there for me,” she said. Chloe is being escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #45 Bobby Foster and #1 Jymond English.

Junior honor maid Morgan Mariah Mullins is a daughter of Craig and Jennifer Mullins. She has a sister, Alyssa. Morgan is a member of the math and Beta clubs, plays volleyball, and has been a cheerleader for five years. She was a sophomore honor maid for homecoming last year. She attends church at Wye Mountain. “I love my family more than anything, and I wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for them and their love and support.” She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #16 Colton Cooksey and #53 Reggie Toney.    

Jordin Taylor Stinett, junior honor maid, is a daughter of Mike and Lorri Stinnett. She has a sister, Aleksi. Jordin is in Beta club, Science Club, Math club, Student Council and FCA. Jordin attends University Church of Christ. Jordin will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #9 Toney Hawkins and #68 Gerrell Riles.    

Makayla Marshall, sophomore honor maid, is a daughter of Shawn and Lisa Bull. She has four brothers and one sister. Makayla has been a cheerleader for four years, and attends the First Assembly of God, where she is on the praise team. Her goal in life is to pursue a nursing career and to always be a good role model. She wants to attend college at the University of Arkansas and be a Razorback cheerleader. Makayla will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #4 Shawn Brockman and #70 Ruelf Alarcon.

Sophomore honor maid Mallory Simer is a daughter of Sonny and Tonya Simer. She has two sisters, Lauren and Morgan. Mallory is a cheerleader, plays volleyball, and is in math club, student council and FCA. Mallory is thankful for the many opportunities at Morrilton High School, and she is honored to be a part of this year’s homecoming court.  She believes that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Mallory will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football players #12 Jordan Ho and #50 Tristin Burgess.

Anna Adams, Senior Class Maid, is the daughter of Scott Adams and Kathy Adams.  She has two brothers and one sister.  Anna  has been on the student council for 3 years, and she is a member of the Beta, science, and Spanish clubs.  She is currently serving as the Student Council president, and is the University of Rochester Humanitarian Award Winner. She enjoys reading and drawing.  Among her favorite things are the color blue, the show “Friends,” ribs, Robert Downey, Jr., and classic rock, especially Elton John.  A few of Anna’s favorite people are her sister Kate, Madison Smolsky (who she would do anything for), and her grandfather, who has been a positive influence on her life.  She is escorted by Senior Devil Dog football player #46 Andrew Shipp.

Senior class maid Jackeline Herrera is a daughter of Ines Vazquez and Mario Palacios. She has one sister, Andrea. Jackeline is in the Spanish, career, recycling and fashion clubs, as well as Skills USA, and she plays soccer. She attends Calvary Baptist Church. After graduating, Jackeline plans to attend Paul Mitchell to further her education in cosmetology. She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog football player  #44 Shikel Delph.

Jayla Criswell, junior class maid, is a daughter of Vondra Rainey and Jerrey Criswell. She has two siblings, JayShawn and Xzavier. Jayla is in B
eta club and band. She plays basketball and is a majorette.  Her favorite people are her teammates. “I am truly blessed to have them in my life.” After school, Jayla wants to attend college close to home and become an orthodontist. She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog Football player  #64 Kelvin Mitchell.

Junior class maid Andrea Herrera is a daughter of Ines Vazquez and Mario Palacios. She has one sister, Jackeline. Andrea participates in Spanish, fashion, recycling and career clubs. She is involved in Skills USA and plays soccer. She attends Calvary Baptist Church where she is active in the youth group. She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog Football Player  #11 Kieran Cole.

Sophomore class maid Haley Shumate is a daughter of Mark and Teresa Shumate. She has two brothers and two sisters. Haley is in the Beta, math and science clubs. She goes to church at Sacred Heart. She hopes for a career in the medical field after graduating.  Haley will be escorted by senior Devil Dog Football player #15 Rayshod Criswell.

Jorden Elizabeth Swain, sophomore class maid, is a daughter of Ronnie Swain and Jessica Mitchell. She has six siblings. Jorden is a member of the student council, gifted and talented, and is a cheerleader. She attends Bethel Baptist Church. She will be escorted by senior Devil Dog Football player #3 Sharaz Rhodes.

This year’s MHS homecoming flower girl is Tessa Bratton and the crown bearer is Mitch Spivey. Tessa is a daughter of English Teacher Jamie Bratton and her husband Joe. She is a kindergarten student at Morrilton Primary School and attends First Presbyterian Church. Mitch is a son of MHS teacher Kurtsy Spivey and her husband Aaron. He is a first-grader at Morrilton Primary School and attends First Presbyterian Church.
