Little Rock Track and Field Athletes receive OVC weekly honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — After completing the regular indoor season at the Arkansas Invitational, Little Rock Track and Field teams received Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors.  Frankie Grey and Gabriel Torres received their first honor, while Aaliyah Mathis earned her second of the season.

Mathis earned her second OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week honor after placing 12th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 14.77m (48-5.50) and setting the new Little Rock record.  This distance bested the previous record of 14.70m (48-2.75) set by Jen Doherty in 1997.  Her distance also ranks her first in the OVC.

Grey received OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week after clocking a personal best time of 47.70 in the 400m.  He is now ranked first in the OVC and third in Little Rock records.

Torres earned OVC Male Freshman of the Week after leading the Trojans in the 60m prelims recording a personal best time of 6.71.  His time now ranks him tied for fifth in Little Rock records, a time that was set in 1998 by De-Von Bean. He is also currently ranked third in the OVC.
