Lady Bisons extend home winning streak to 16 games

SEARCY — Harding had two large scoring runs in the first half and cruised to an 80-62 victory over Henderson State on Dec. 14 in Great American Conference women’s basketball action at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.

Harding had a 13-2 run that started early in the first quarter and closed the second quarter on an 18-2 run that left the Lady Bisons ahead 50-28 at halftime. Harding did not shoot as well in the third quarter, dipping to 31%, but held onto a 62-46 lead entering the fourth but pulled away from there.

Harding improved to 8-1 with the victory, earning its eighth straight win overall and its 16th straight home win dating to last season, the third longest streak in program history. The Lady Bisons are 4-0 in the GAC and remain one of three unbeaten teams in conference.

Sage Hawley led Harding with 25 points and 19 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season and school-record breaking 45th career double-double. Arielle Saunders held the record at 44.

Hawley was 11-of-23 shooting and had five blocked shots.

During the 18-2 run in the second quarter, Harding held Henderson State without a field goal for more than five minutes with the Reddies scoring only on a pair of free throws with under a minute left.

Aubrey Isbell scored 14 of her 18 points in the first quarter and has scored in double figures in Harding’s last four games.

Rory Geer notched her third double-double with a season-high 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Harding limited Henderson State to 33.8% shooting and outrebounded the Reddies 55-39.
