Harding’s Mason breaks school record for hammer throw

Cara Mason

Harding University’s women’s track and field team began action at the Great American Conference Outdoor Championship on April 15. Southern Arkansas University was the event’s host. A Harding junior, Cara Mason, won the hammer throw, setting a school record.

Mason broke her own Harding record with a throw of 49.48 meters (162-4) to win the event. Her previous best was 49.05 meters at the 2019 GAC Championship. It was the third-best throw ever at the GAC Championships and the fifth-best throw ever by a GAC athlete. Mason became the first Harding female to win the hammer throw at a conference meet. She has won the hammer throw in all four meets she has competed in this season and it was her seventh career event victory in the hammer and 11th in an outdoor throwing event.
