Harding Softball sweeps Union

JACKSON, Tenn. – Emma Curry hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning of game two as the Harding softball team swept Union in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday. Harding won the first game 1-0 and the second game 12-9.

Emma Curry hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning.

The Lady Bisons have now won 12 straight games dating back to March 2.

Harding improves to 19-9 overall and Union falls to 18-11.

GAME ONE (Harding 1, Union 0)

Abby Burch started and got the win for Harding. She went six innings and didn’t allow a run. Riley Price earned the save after a one inning shutout to close the game.

Tedi Nunn led the Lady Bisons going 2-for-3 at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After six scoreless innings, Harding plated a run when Tedi Nunn hit a double to right center that scored Kaya Lee from second.

GAME NOTES

– Harding was outhit 8-4.

– The Lady Bisons had three stolen bases.

– Emily Claire Felder received the loss for Union and falls to 4-4 on the season. She pitched three innings of relief.

GAME TWO (Harding 12, Union 9)

Abby Burch picked up the win in game two throwing two innings out of the pen. She gave up one hit and had one strikeout. Burch improves to 8-3 on the season.

Emma Curry led Harding at the plate going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Macy Ham and Madison Fraley also had two hits in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED.

Harding took a commanding 7-0 lead in the third inning on five hits and three errors. Madison Fraley highlighted the inning with a three-run triple. The Lady Bisons also had RBI’s by Chelsea Blankenship and Brooke Johnson.

Union got two runs back in the third on three hits.

Harding made it 9-2 in the fourth on RBI singles by Emma Curry and Kate Pierce. 

The Bulldogs scored four runs on three hits in the fourth inning to trail 9-6.

Union got within one in the sixth on a two-run homer. The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Mackenzi David led off the inning with a solo home run.

With runners at second and third and no outs in the top of the eighth inning, Emma Curry hit her fifth home run of the season to give Harding a 12-9 lead.

GAME NOTES

– Union outhit Harding again 12-11.

– Harding had 10 RBI’s in the game. It was the second time this season Emma Curry had four RBI’s in a game. It was the first time this season Madison Fraley had three RBI’s in a game.

– Harding had four stolen bases in the game.

– Riley Vaughn received the loss for Union and falls to 6-2 on the season. She pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief and had six strikeouts.

NEXT UP

Harding will be back in action this weekend as it travels to Alva, Oklahoma to take on Northwestern Oklahoma in a three-game Great American Conference series. The two teams will play a doubleheader Friday starting at 1 p.m., and then play a single game Saturday at 11 a.m.
