Harding Academy to host Micah Rine Wildcat Legacy

Harding Academy will host the Seventh Annual Micah Rine Wildcat Legacy Race at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. The race begins at the Academy campus and includes a 5K race and 1-mile run/walk.

The event is named for Micah Rine, a former Harding Academy and Harding University student who was murdered at in 2009 at age 26.

“Micah was a runner and loved the Academy,” said Dennis Rine, Micah’s father and teacher and counselor at the Academy. “The race seemed like a natural way to honor her and raise money for the women’s workout room and scholarship named in her honor.”

Dennis and his wife, Terri, have played an integral part in the race since its inception and feel supported by the Academy community.

“We have had good turnouts for the race, and it is always a highlight to see Micah’s classmates come back and run in her honor. Terri and I are humbled and honored to see people remember our daughter in this way.”

Prizes awarded in the 5K include overall first, second and third; top master (40 and older); and male and female winners in age groups 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older.

Registration is $30, and participants may sign up searcylegacyseries.com/wr5k. They also may bring payment to the Academy High School Office. Make checks payable to Harding Academy Micah Room.
