Greenbrier bowling teams dominate state tournament

Bowling teams from Greenbrier High School scored in the top spots at the recent 5A State Tournament held in Jonesboro.

The Greenbrier Lady Panther bowling team won the 5A state championship. The Lady Panthers dominated to win by more than 300 pins for the school’s sixth 5A state championship in the last seven years.

The Greenbrier boys also had a great day with a 5A state tournament runner-up finish.

“It is an amazing accomplishment what Coach White and her bowling teams have done over the last 7 years,” said Greenbrier Public Schools Athletic Director Stephen Wood. “It’s really hard to win a state championship in any sport one time so to do it six out of seven years is unheard of.  We also want to give a lot of credit to the parents of our bowlers. They do a great job of getting their children access to bowling during the off season and having them ready to go when our season starts in November.”

In addition to the team achievements, several individual players won honors:

Freshman Tyler Weaver won the boys overall individual state championship.

Senior Hannah Scherer won the girls overall individual state championship.

Hailey Connell was a bronze medalist.

“Hannah Scherer not only won the 5A girls overall but she had the highest three game average in the state out of all boys and girls in all classifications,” Wood said. “There is no award for that but it’s pretty awesome.”
