Elementary school plans celebrity basketball game

Woodrow Cummins Elementary School will host the Conway Celebrity Basketball Jam at 6 p.m. Friday, April 22, to raise money to build a school track.

The event will be held at Buzz Bolding Arena. It will feature school representatives on one team versus community leaders on the other.

“There will be a lot of familiar faces,” said assistant principal Gary Logan. “It’s all in an effort to put in a track.”

Admission is $3 per person and the public is invited. A silent auction and vendor booths are also planned. The concession stand will be open and there will be a barbecue dinner before the game.

Conway Regional Health System has donated $15,000 toward the project, according to Logan.

For physical education classes and the Woodrow Cummins running club, students have had to use a school parking lot, which can be challenging, according to Logan.

Several other Conway elementary schools are involved in the fundraising event, including the dribbler and jump rope teams from Ellen Smith Elementary.

Logan said school officials hope to see the track built this summer, in time for classes to begin in August.
