Disc Golf Weekend planned April 8-10

The second annual Full Blown Open Disc Golf Weekend is scheduled Friday, April 8, through Sunday, April 10. Presented by the Fairfield Bay Recreation Department and Dynamic Discs, this disc golf weekend appeals to a full range of skills and ages.

A sanctioned Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) event, the weekend tournament is designed for recreational players as well as professionals, kids ages 6 and younger to senior legends ages 80 and older.

The weekend starts with a game of glow golf on Fairfield Bay’s own professional course, then includes play on an 18-hole disc golf course set up for the weekend’s activities. It concludes with a game on the beautiful Indian Hills Golf Course.

“Although around since the 70s, disc golf has been gaining in popularity the last few years,” said Fairfield Bay Mayor Paul Wellenberger. “It’s easy to learn and affordable. Fairfield Bay’s course opened in 2014, and we’ve found our disc tournament has been a great gateway for recreational players to play competitively as well as a place to showcase professionals who go on to play in larger regional tournaments. It’s been fun to watch them all.”

The weekend event is kicked off on Friday night with a Glow Golf game at Woodland Mead.

Park Disc Golf Course. Open to amateurs and professionals, this fun event has nine holes/baskets to complete. Players bring their own glow discs and flashlights. The course has tightly wooded holes with several large boulders and beautiful landscaping designed by the local master gardeners group.

Recreational, intermediate, advanced and master divisions of play are available in the Full Blown Open Disc Golf event. Winners in the professional division will be paid in cash and the amateurs will be paid in merchandise. There are a limited number of participant spots available.
