Native of: Starkville, Miss.

Where did you grow up: My mother lived in the Memphis area after my parents divorced, so I split time between Memphis and Port Gibson, Miss, where my father lived.

Education: Bachelor’s and master’s of arts in teaching degrees, University of Memphis; master’s in English, Austin Peay State University.

Job: Homemaker, but usually I teach high school English.

Parents: John and Bitsy Segrest, Port Gibson, Miss., and Diane and Tim Setterlund, Drew, Miss.

Community activities: Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, the Women’s Leadership Network and Conway High School Band Boosters.

Church activities: We are searching for a church, but I have traditionally taught Sunday school and volunteer with the homeless ministry.

Hobbies/special interests: I love travel, especially planning vacations. I love the outdoors, and we are exploring the different hiking trails in Arkansas. I love to read anything, fiction or non-fiction, especially science and history.

How would you describe yourself: I try to be a friend to everyone I meet.

Favorite restaurant in the 501: Conway has so many good options!

Most enjoyed weekend activity: Hiking, watching UCA Bear Athletics, spending time with family.

What do you love about living in the 501: The people! This community is full of kind people dedicated to improving each other’s lives through a devotion to place. We are so lucky to be here.

Where did you grow up: Clarksville, Tenn.

Education: Bachelor of arts, University of Memphis; master’s, Tennessee State University; Ph.D., Vanderbilt University.

Job: President, University of Central Arkansas.

Parents: James and Linda Davis of Clarksville, Tenn.

Community activities: Conway High Band Boosters; Rotary Club (honorary).

Church activities: Still visiting churches; past member of Roswell, Ga., Presbyterian Church and Act2 United Methodist Church, Edmond, Okla.

Hobbies/special interests: Hiking, canoeing/kayaking, music festivals and travel.

How would you describe yourself: Father, husband, friend.

Favorite restaurant in the 501: Mike’s Place and Dixie Café.

Most enjoyed weekend activity: Hiking the state’s best trails.

Favorite quote: “Things are never as bad or as good as you think they are.”

What do you love about living in the 501: The people are very friendly and welcoming.

Residents of: Conway.

How we met: I helped her put up lights at a Junior Panhellenic Fashion Show at the University of Memphis. We were both pledges of our Greek organizations and working the event.

The proposal: I asked her in the lookout tower at Grand Gulf State Park in Port Gibson, Miss.

Wedding bells: July 29, 1995, Christ the King Lutheran Church, Memphis.

Children: Polly (21), Whitney (18), Joshua (15).

Pets: Elvis (basset hound) and Zuzu (cat).

Family activities enjoyed together: Hiking, music festivals/concerts and travel.
