Conway Christian's Henry to play on college level

by Sonja J. Keith

Jakob Henry has taken the next step in his childhood dream to play college baseball.

In front of classmates, faculty, friends and family, the Conway Christian School senior signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday afternoon to play baseball at the University of Central Arkansas.

Jakob said he considered other schools, including the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, but opted to stay close to home. “I love the coaches,” he said.

A talented athlete, Jakob also plays football and basketball but baseball is his favorite. He has played since he was 6 years old. When asked if one particular person stood out from his time playing baseball, Jakob recognized Andy Menard, his summer baseball coach for the Rawlings Arkansas Prospects. He has played for the team for the last five years. “He really helped boost my baseball career.”

An only child of Pam and David Henry, Jakob expressed appreciation for the love and support he has received from his parents. “They are my biggest supporters,” he said. “They are at every game and wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

Jakob has attended Conway Christian School for six years. “All the glory to God,” he said of his signing.

“It’s awesome and a blessing,” he said. “It’s a childhood dream.”
