CBC wins third AMC Championship

CONWAY — Surviving overtime in their win on March 2, Central Baptist College basketball hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University in the American Midwest Conference tournament championship game presented by Tandem HR. CBC (25-6) avenged A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse, dominating from the start, cruising their third AMC title, 105-72 over the Spartans of Missouri Baptist.

Sage Borbon led the way with a career-high 26 points, and he was joined in double figures by Deshawn Corprew with 16, Kyle Harding with 15 off the bench and Wade Williams with 12 off the bench. CBC shot 56 percent from the field, made 13 threes and outrebounded MBU 43-42.

Corprew opened the scoring with a jumper 21 seconds into the game and Missouri Baptist tied the game with a jumper before Devin Foster put CBC up 4-2 with a jumper and the Mustangs set sail from there, cruising to a 51-34 lead at the half. Borbon opened the second half with a three and the Mustangs ran away, leading by as much as 38 before settling at the final.

MUSTANG NOTES

  • CBC put up a record point total in the AMC Championship game, becoming the first team to eclipse triple digit in a title game. The previous record of 99 was set by Harris-Stowe at Reddin Fieldhouse in 2020 by Harris-Stowe.
  • 33 points is the second largest margin of victory in championship game history. The Mustangs also have the largest margin of victory, 35 points, in the 2021 title game against Columbia, which was also at Reddin Fieldhouse.

CBC became the first team to have two 100-plus games in the AMC Tournament since Freed-Hardeman in 2014.
