CBC volleyball schedule announced

Central Baptist College volleyball coach Stephanie Irwin has announced the 2019 schedule. CBC is coming off a 3-26 season and Irwin will be making her debut for CBC in August.

The season begins for the Mustangs on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30-31, in Little Rock at the Philander Smith Classic with opponents and times to be announced. This is the first of two tournaments the Mustangs will play in this season.

The first solo match of the regular season is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in Tyler, Texas, against Texas College. 

CBC will stay on the road the following weekend when the team heads to Jackson, Miss., for the Belhaven Classic. The season-opening road trip continues on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when the Mustangs head to Winfield, Kan., for a tri-match at Southwestern College that includes both the host school and NCCAA institution Randall University. The road trip ends on Tuesday, Sept. 17, when CBC heads back to Mississippi for a matchup with NCAA Division III opponent Mississippi University for Women.

CBC opens its home season at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, when American Midwest Conference foe Lindenwood-Belleville comes to Reddin Fieldhouse, which will be followed by a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, Sept. 21, against AMC foe St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Mustangs end September on the road with a mid-week matchup against Crowley’s Ridge on Tuesday, Sept. 24, before a pair of AMC matches on Friday, Sept. 27, against defending NAIA National Champions Park and William Woods on Saturday, Sept. 28.

CBC will be on the road only twice the following month, once on Saturday, Oct. 5, against AMC rival Freed-Hardeman and on Friday, Oct. 25, against AMC in-state rival Lyon. Home games are:

Tuesday, Oct. 8 – Mississippi University for Women (6 p.m.)

Friday, Oct. 11 – AMC rival Missouri Baptist (7 p.m.)

Saturday, Oct. 12 – AMC rival Harris-Stowe State (1 p.m.)

Tuesday, Oct. 15 – Texas College (7 p.m.)

Saturday, Oct. 19 – Cottey College (noon) and NCCAA institution Dallas Christian (6 p.m.) Tuesday, Oct. 22 – Randall University (7 p.m.)

Saturday, Oct. 26 – NCCAA institution Ozark Christian (2 p.m.)

Tuesday, Oct. 29 – Crowley’s Ridge College (7 p.m.)

November sees CBC on the road for three of its four contests. Friday, Nov. 1, against AMC rival Stephens begins the month. CBC will take on Columbia College in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 2. The final road match of the season will be in Moore, Okla., on Tuesday, Nov. 5, against Randall before the Mustangs return home to play for the final time Saturday, Nov. 9, against AMC rival Hannibal-LaGrange, with Senior Day festivities beginning at 1 p.m.

Irwin said this about the schedule: “I’m looking forward to seeing the conference with fresh eyes. I’m ready to take on some tough teams and steal some great wins. It will be a great season.”
