CBC splits with Mission on final day; wins overall series

OZARK, Mo. — Looking for an American Midwest Conference series sweep against Mission, Central Baptist College baseball was back at US Ballpark on March 8 for the final two games of the four-game series. CBC (11-11, 9-3 AMC) split the day with MU (13-5, 8-4 AMC), winning game one 16-2 before falling 7-6 in eight innings in game two.

GAME ONE – CBC 16, MISSION 2

Neither team scored in the first inning, but CBC jumped to the lead in the second thanks to a two-run single by Julian Rodriguez and a single by Ryan Dauphinee to make it 3-0 after two. In the third, CBC put five on the scoreboard thanks to a two-run single by Garrett Fitts, a passed ball, a single by Brennan Duhe and another single by Dauphinee to make it 8-0. CBC would put up six more in the fourth on a double by Josh Lumsden, a two-run home run by Brayden Mayencourt, his second of the season, a two-run double by Rodriguez and a wild pitch. The final two runs came in the fifth inning on an error and in the sixth on a single by Aaron Prince. Mission’s lone runs against Dylan Parton came in the seventh. Parton threw a complete seven-hitter and struck out seven for his second win of the season.

GAME TWO – MISSION 7, CBC 6 (EIGHT INNINGS)

CBC jumped out to a lead again in game two, going ahead 1-0 on a single by Mayencourt. CBC added two in the third on a triple by George Astacio and a double by Dauphinee. Mission scored in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1 before CBC answered back with two in the fourth on a double by Fitts and a single by Rodriguez making the score 5-1. Mission would put CBC down 6-5 with six in the fifth before Chett McDaniel tied the score to 6-6 with a double in the sixth. The game remained that way until the eighth, when Mission walked off on a sac fly.
