Boy Scouts host 'Swing for Scouts'

Conway Boy Scout Troop 392 recently held its second annual “Swing for Scouts” four-man scramble golf tournament at the Greens at Nutters Chapel golf course.

The grand marshal for the event, former Sen. Stanley Russ, offered up words of encouragement to both the Scouts and players.

It was a “fun” event for all levels of golfers, as evidenced by the “Pose for the Ladies Tee” where players could hit from the ladies tee if they were dressed like ladies.

The Scouts assisted players on various holes by spotting balls, marking distances, raking traps and pulling pins.

Troop 392 was originally chartered in 1964 under the sponsorship of the Noon Optimist Club. The initial meeting place was Central Baptist Church. Unfortunately the troop went dormant in the late 70s, but was re-chartered in January 2008 by Scout Master Kenn Mayo who was a former scout of Troop 392. The revitalized troop has grown to be one of Conway’s largest with 47 active members. Troop 392 is sponsored by the Faulkner County Emergency Squad and meets each Monday at Peace Lutheran Church.
