Bears sweep weekly accolades

FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced its weekly Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, and the Central Arkansas softball team swept the awards. Tylar Vernon earned Hitter of the Week, while Kayla Beaver collected Pitcher of the Week honors.

Vernon posted an outstanding weekend in College Station as she was 6-for-10 at the plate. She posted a .600 batting average against two Power Five teams. Her best game came against Texas Tech, where she was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. She finished the weekend with two doubles and four runs scored. She was patient at the plate and drew two walks. She posted a slugging percentage of .800 and an on-base percentage of .692.

Beaver recorded a 1-1 record in the circle. She picked up the win against Texas Tech with a complete game. She struck out six batters and did not concede a walk. She surrendered just one run and scattered six hits. Despite the loss against Texas A&M, Beaver gave up just one earned run. She struck out five and walked only one batter. She posted a 1.08 ERA in her two games and went a total of 13 innings. She finished with 11 strikeouts and just one walk. She held opponents to a .235 batting average.

“I couldn’t be happier for those two,” Head Coach David Kuhn said. “They both had great performances against some really good teams. They both have very bright features.”
