WRI offers Grow Your Groceries

The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute is offering Grow Your Groceries with Janet Carson, a gardening workshop, Saturday, March 21, through Sunday, March 22. The workshop is open to participants of all gardening skill levels, but will focus on basic techniques best suited for beginners or those without considerable experience.

Carson, an Extension horticulture specialist with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and state coordinator for the Arkansas Master Gardener program, will provide instruction on creating and planting raised-bed gardens.

In the evening, participants will be treated to a culinary demonstration centered around the theme of “garden to table.”

Admission to the workshop will include overnight lodging and breakfast the next morning.

“The Institute is such a great place for this kind of workshop,” Carson said. “I’m looking forward to being back there for what promises to be a great weekend.”

Grow Your Groceries will utilize space at the Institute’s Heritage Farmstead for Carson’s instruction.

“Janet is the go-to expert on gardening in Arkansas,” said Dr. Marta Loyd, executive director of the Institute. “She’s a wonderful ambassador for the Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Arkansas System. We are proud to be able to work with her and to offer a program of this quality to the people of Arkansas.”
