Women’s Council plans free health fair April 20

The 17th annual IN HER HONOR Women’s Health Fair will offer a variety of services for women and men of all ages on Friday, April 20.

The free health fair is sponsored by the Conway Regional Women’s Council and will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Conway Regional Health & Fitness Center, 700 Salem Road. Cholesterol and glucose screenings, blood pressure checks, body composition checks and posture and sun damage assessments are part of the free health services to be provided. The first 150 guests will receive a box lunch.

“We try to add more free services each year to increase the appeal to the community. This year, the Conway Regional wellness staff will bring their new body composition analysis device. It provides much more than basic body composition services,” said Women’s Council health fair co-chair Pam Sims. “The hours have been expanded this year as well to give people an opportunity to come see us over the lunch hour and later into the day.”

The Conway Regional Wellness and Diabetes Department will be on site to demonstrate Bioelectric Impedance Analysis, a new body composition analysis device. The device uses bioelectrical energy to break body composition down into fat mass, protein, minerals and skeletal muscle mass (muscle gained through exercise). It also shows the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), calculating the amount of calories a person needs for body function while at rest. The BMR helps to determine how many calories need to be burned to lose weight or add muscle mass.

Other services will include car seat safety checks, fitness demonstrations and personal training information, and first aid and trauma prevention information. Other topics to be covered include women’s, senior, home health and hospice resources, sleep management, senior behavioral health, stress management resources, pain management services, personal and home safety resources. The fair will feature healthy cooking demonstrations and nutrition consultation and a prescription drug take back activity.

Community services represented at the health fair include: CapTel Outreach, Renaissance Women’s Center, Bledsoe Chiropractor, the Conway Lions Club, Conway Police Department, Conway Fire Department and Safety Town.

The Conway Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, trauma team, pain management, sleep management, clinical laboratory, wellness and diabetes, mammography services, imaging center, senior behavioral health and health and fitness center will all participate in the health fair.
