Women of the World to perform at Harding

Harding University will host the vocal quartet Women of the World at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Administration Auditorium as part of its Arts and Life Concert Series.

Women of the World is a Boston-based vocal quartet compromised of singers from Japan, India, Italy and Haiti. The performing artists include Ayumi Ueda, Annette Philip, Giorgia Renosto and Deborah Pierre.

For their Harding appearance, they will be joined by percussionist Patrick Simard. Since its beginning in 2008, the ensemble has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Grammy-award winning vocalist Bobby McFerrin, American songstress Nona Hendryx, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. The group won the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in 2014.

Women of the World present songs in more than 30 languages. Their repertoire includes selections from Africa, South America, Asia and Europe as well as songs exploring various musical genres such as jazz number “Walking Down the Street” and gospel piece “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho.”
