Women in Construction chapter awards scholarship

MORRILTON— The Greater Little Rock Chapter #12 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) recently awarded a $500 scholarship to UACCM welding student Crista Yates.

Current NAWIC president Kim Moore from Koontz Electric, along with NAWIC members Tammy Andrews, Shelli Crowell, Sarah Fulmer and Wanda Virden, all from Koontz Electric, and Dusty Norris from TOLM Group presented the scholarship check to Yates. A Dardanelle resident, Yates will complete her Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding Technology in December.

The objectives of NAWIC Greater Little Rock Chapter #12 include uniting women who are actively employed in the various phases of the construction industry; providing education, support and networking to help women advance in their construction careers; and building technical and leadership skills within the industry. In addition, NAWIC provides scholarships and mentoring to women enrolled in construction-related programs at UACCM and UALR.
