CONWAY — University of Central Arkansas defensive end David Walker was named the United Athletic Conference (UAC) Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after a record-setting performance against Tarleton State.

The junior All-American from Stuttgart, Ark., broke a 20-year-old school record with 6.5 tackles for loss against the Texans. The old mark was 5.0 set by Icsom Jones against Ouachita Baptist in 2003. Walker finished with a career-high 13 total tackles and a forced fumble. He also added a sack on a two-point conversion attempt by the Texans that is not credited in the total tackles.

Walker’s effort earned him the L.B. Jackman Award which goes annually to the Most Valuable Player of the Homecoming game.

For the season, Walker is ranked fourth in the nation in tackles for loss with 14.5.

No. 25 UCA plays at North Alabama this weekend in Florence, Ala. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Braly Stadium.
