UCA’s Daughdrill earns honors

The Southland Conference recently announced its 2019-20 Men’s Golf All-Academic team. Sophomore Brett Daughdrill achieved his first academic honor with a first-team accolade.

The Jonesboro native finished the season with the second-best average for the Bears with a 73.39 in 18 rounds played. His best finish was T-26th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. His season-low round was a 66 at the JT Poston Invitational. He tallied 46 birdies and two eagles on the year. In the classroom, he compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA and led the team.

The all-academic teams are voted on by a head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection.

The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the student-athlete of the year. The Southland student-athlete of the year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.

“I am extremely proud of Brett! He is very deserving of being named to the SLC All-Academic First Team,” said Head Coach Steve Runge. “He is an outstanding person on and off of the course. He has a bright future and it is a pleasure having him on the team.”
