UCA to host Randy Newman and the Conway Symphony Orchestra

UCA Public Appearances at the University of Central Arkansas will host “An Evening with Randy Newman & the Conway Symphony Orchestra” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall. Newman is a singer-songwriter, arranger, composer and pianist who is known for his distinctive voice, mordant pop songs and vast array of film scores Since the 1980s, Newman has worked mostly as a film composer. He has scored seven Disney-Pixar films: Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Cars, Toy Story 3 and most recently, Monsters University. He has won numerous awards including two Academy Awards, three Emmys and six Grammy Awards. Newman will perform many of his hits with the Conway Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Israel Getzov. In its Broadway series, the UCA Public Appearances will present “7 Brides for 7 Brothers” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16. In its final Best of Reynolds series, UCA Public Appearances will present Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Reynolds. Previous performances in 2001 and 2004 have brought requests for Skaggs to return. Known for mastery of the mandolin, he is a country and bluegrass legend with a career spanning 55 years.
