UCA chorus to perform

The University of Central Arkansas University Chorus will perform Thursday, Nov. 19, in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.

The concert, “From our Lands to Yours,” will be the first of the fall season for the choir.

“For this performance, each song speaks to the different ‘lands’ we all emerge from, be they literal or figurative,” said Dr. Sheri Cook-Cunningham, assistant professor of music education and director of the University Chorus.

The performance will begin with two songs from the 18th century by William Billings and will also include Scottish and Irish songs “Away from the Roll of the Sea” by MacGillivray, “A Red, Red Rose” by Rossi and “Loch Lomond”, arranged by Jonathan Quick.

“Our final section (featuring ‘Way Over in Beulah Land’ and ‘Give Us Hope’ by Jim Papoulis) will convey hope for our land and our place in it,” Cook-Cunningham said.

University Chorus is a non-auditioned ensemble composed of interested students from any major. The choir is always looking for new students to join.

“Many of the students in University Chorus are students who sang in their high school choirs and miss that chance to make music,” Cook-Cunningham said. “It’s a cohesive blend of students in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. It also provides opportunities for music education students to conduct an ensemble, and this year there are two student conductors, graduate assistant Jerron Liddell and senior music education student, Sarah Garvey.”
