UACCM plans workforce, community education classes

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, through its Office of Workforce & Community Education, will host a Community Education Day at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Library Complex. Designed to help community members start off 2017 with some self-improvement, the event will feature courses on personal budgeting, crocheting, genealogy and improving placement scores for college.

The program for Community Education Day:

•    8 a.m. – 3 p.m.: “Cracking the ACT” is a one-day workshop to help individuals learn how to avoid common mistakes on the ACT and other placement exams. Participants will gain valuable skills to improve their scores and increase scholarship potential by practicing testing areas such as English, math, reading and science. Registration is $40, which does not include the cost of the “Cracking the ACT” booklet available for rent or purchase from the UACCM Bookstore.

•    9 a.m. – 3 p.m.: “Crochet a Scarf” involves bringing one skein of 4 worsted weight yarn in your choice of color and your own “J” hook needle. In this course, you will learn to chain stitch and make scarves to keep you or a friend warm this winter. Registration is $25.

•    9 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Those wishing to learn more about their family tree are encouraged to register for “Genealogy,” the perfect one-day course to help begin the discovery of ancestry. Registration is $30.

•    9 – 11 a.m.: Are finances part of your New Year’s resolutions for 2017? Get your financial house in order this year by attending “Personal Budgeting Basics,” a course taught by UACCM Personal Finance Instructor Ron Beckman. Registration is $10.

Registration for all courses must be completed by Friday, Jan. 20, by going to uaccm.edu/workforce. For more information, contact Director of Workforce Development Vicki Shadell at 501.977.2132 or [email protected].
