UACCM hosts mobile workshop

The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton will host the Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshop, an Arkansas-based workforce initiative designed to increase the number of skilled professionals in the state, on campus through Wednesday, May 2. These events are free and open to the community.

The workshop will be set up outside the brand-new Workforce Training Center on the west end of campus.

Guests who stop by from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, can explore the professional training opportunities available in Morrilton by touring the WTC. Free food and drinks will also be available while supplies last.

The workshop will also be open from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2.

The Be Pro Be Proud Mobile Workshop encourages student participation in construction, trucking, manufacturing and other specific career opportunities. It includes interactive work stations that engage participants in several skilled professional careers through gaming, rich video and more.

Arkansas’s skilled professional workforce is aging fast, leading to a growing gap in finding Arkansans to fill these positions. There are an estimated 5.6 million job openings in the U.S. today. Approximately 60,000 of these openings exist in Arkansas with the majority being in high skilled technical fields.

Only one in three parents say they would encourage their children to pursue technical careers, despite the advanced skills and high pay characteristics of these opportunities. Offering Arkansans new insight into the skilled professional workforce requires a team approach that includes employers, schools, elected officials, students and parents who recognize that skilled professions are rewarding career opportunities.
