Toad Suck Inn offers tasty fare

Brenda Beene is the owner and chief cook of the Toadsuck Inn, located at 3236 Highway 60 in Perry County, just a short, five-mile drive from the Toad Suck Lock and Dam. (Traveling west on Highway 60 from the lock and dam, watch for the metal building just past St. Boniface Catholic Church.)

Upon arrival, be sure to take notice of the frog collection that Brenda has been able to collect through the years! Much of the decor came from a barn that Brenda purchased and translated onto the walls and surroundings of the dining room which can seat 120 guests.

Toadsuck Inn also caters for private parties and is available on nights that the restaurant is not open to the public.
The atmosphere of the family-run facility is rustic, creating an atmosphere perfectly suited for fried catfish, boiled and fried shrimp, chicken tenders, slaw, salad fixins, apple fritters and homemade desserts.

Perhaps one of the tastiest items on the buffet — that just might be worth the scenic drive through the countryside to get to Toadsuck Inn — would be Ivana Beene’s hushpuppies (created by Brenda’s mom). It was difficult to regulate my diet discipline once I tasted of these cornmeal wonders!

The daughter-in-law, the grandchildren, Mom — lots of family members — are there to assist as needed. The family has been in the restaurant business for over 18 years and is certainly familiar with the kitchen preparation of one of 501 LIFE’s favorite culinary pastimes — catfish!

Serving hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights. For more information, please call 501.759.3376.

Whether you dine in, schedule a party or carry out – don’t miss the hushpuppies at the Toadsuck Inn. It is the latest in the 501 LIFE grand list of dining possibilities!
