Summer fan drive planned

Home Instead Senior Care is asking area residents to lend a helping hand to assist senior citizens during the hot weather.

Home Instead is hosting its second annual fan drive at the Faulkner County Senior Citizens Center from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 18. The center is located at 1620 Donaghey Ave. in Conway.

“These summer months are some of the hottest that Central Arkansas has experienced and the time is now to provide relief,” said Laura Wimberly, community service representative. “Many seniors experience extreme exhaustion and weakness in the summer months and those who go without the basic necessity of air conditioning might face the likeliness of having a heat stroke, heart attack and/or other major health issues.”

Wimberly pointed out that many seniors go without necessities like air conditioning because of limited income.

Financial resources they do have is primarily spent on medications, groceries, doctor visits, etc.
“Please help us help the seniors in the community by donating fans or donating funds to provide a fan,” she said.
