St. Joseph hosts 101st annual bazaar

A spaghetti dinner, a midway with games and a silent/live auction are planned during the 101st Annual St. Joseph Bazaar planned Thursday, Aug. 1, through Saturday, Aug. 3, in Conway.

On Thursday and Friday, the bazaar midway will open at 5:30 p.m. on the church grounds, located at 502 Front St. It will include the popular ham and bacon stand, petting zoo, cake stand, bingo and kids’ games.

On Friday, box lunches of homemade spaghetti, sides and desserts will be sold out of the school’s cafeteria. From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., lunches may be picked up from the building near the corner of Front St. and College Ave. Delivery orders are requested to be made no later than 5 p.m. Thursday. Orders may be faxed to 501.329.1987 or emailed to [email protected]. Lunches are $8 each with dessert available for $1.

Patrons of the school also attend a spaghetti and fried chicken dinner in the St. Joseph Parish Hall and cafeteria between 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday. The dinner is $11 per person, and $6 for children ages 6-11. Traditionally, attendees eat at the “family-style dinner” and then attend the midway.

One of the largest bazaar events is Saturday’s silent and live auction, which is an “adult only” event. The 2013 theme is “Wild, Wild Auction” indicating a fun western atmosphere. The St. Joseph Parish Hall doors open at 6 p.m. for the auction, and silent bidding begins at 6:30. The live auction begins at 8:45 p.m.

More than 200 silent auction items are collected each year for this event, primarily from local businesses. At the auction event’s close, drawings will be held for the first and subsequent raffle prizes.

The grand prize raffle is a 2013 Dodge Challenger. The raffle’s second prize is a 55-inch television, and the third prize is a Ruger .270 Rifle.

Tickets for other items to be raffled off at the auction will be available at the midway on Thursday and Friday and at Saturday’s event.
