Saturday Chef’s Series

The Saturday Chef’s Series at Winthrop Rockfeller Institute offers every “cheficinado” an opportunity to test out and develop new skills and techniques by attending a wholesome, hands-on cooking class.

A variety of topics are offered with something tempting for everyone’s palate. Classes are held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. through November in the fun and functional culinary classroom and laboratory at Winthrop Rockefeller Institute atop Petit Jean Mountain.

On May 14 and 21, Case Dighero of Crystal Bridges Museum will present “Americana with an Attitude.” On June 11 and 18, Mary Twedt of Arkansas Cooks will present “Simple Ideas for the Common Cook.” 501 LIFE contributor Don Bingham is scheduled to present “Christmas in July” on July 16 and 23.

Space is limited in each class and participation requires advance registration. Cost is $95 per participant per class.

Saturday Chef’s Series participants can save on the cost of a room at the lodge and conference center. The “Edible Excursion” package rate of $145 applies to 2011 Saturday Chef’s Series only. Prices include one-night lodging in a double occupancy room and the cost of the class(es) for one participant.

Due to the hands-on nature of the classes, participants are asked to come dressed comfortably with close-toed shoes and limited jewelry. Over the course of the class, participants can expect some demonstration and discussion, but the majority of time is to be spent working in groups of two or three to prepare several different dishes. Participants who want to take home some of their creations for friends and families to try are encouraged to bring containers.

Space is limited to 18 participants in each session.

The Saturday Chef’s Series is sponsored in part by Mountain Valley Spring Water and Petit Jean Meats.
