Sacred Heart School’s Community Quiz Bowl

Sacred Heart Catholic School recently hosted the Morrilton community’s first Community Quiz Bowl. The event was chosen as a fundraiser for the school based on the success of both Morrilton High School and Sacred Heart High School Quiz Bowl teams, who each placed first in their respective quiz bowl classes in 2010. page_15_-_life_pics_-_sacred_-_dim_bulbs_team.jpg
The Community Quiz Bowl gave adults a chance to compete in an abbreviated version of the actual Quiz Bowl competition and participants brought a competitive spirit to the evening. In the final round, The Dim Bulbs from Koontz Electric Co. Inc. pulled out a win against the Quiz Bowl Queens sponsored by Primarily Pediatrics. The Koontz team was also recognized for choosing the most creative team name.

The other teams participating:

Team Brilliant Bankers (Farmers & Merchants Bank)
Team Rock (Winthrop Rockefeller Institute)
Super Hyperbolic Intelligence Team (Lisa Burgener and Janis Horn)
Volunteer Vixens (GFWC Century League of Morrilton)
The Mausketeers (Maus Implement)
St. Anthony’s Medical Mind Connectors (St. Anthony’s Medical Center)
The Brainy Bunch (University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton)

In addition to watching the show, guests were treated to a Sacred Heart signature meal – a spaghetti and sausage dinner. MHS alum Jennifer Trafford hosted the event as emcee for the evening and former SHS Principal Mark Tyler acted as moderator for the competition; Quiz Bowl coaches Patti Bottoms (SHS) and Linda Smith (former MHS coach) were judges for the evening. Several door prizes were awarded throughout the evening in exchange for the correct answers to trivia questions from audience members.

All proceeds from the Community Quiz Bowl benefit the Sacred Heart School Annual Fund which helps meet the needs of the school each year.
