Sacred Heart hosts Community Quiz Bowl

The Community Quiz Bowl gave adults the chance to compete in an abbreviated version of the actual Quiz Bowl competition and the participants certainly brought a competitive spirit to the evening.

In the final round, Bart Virden & His Kids pulled out a win against The Brain Bunch (sponsored by the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton).

Horse Sense, the team sponsored by Morrilton Veterinary, was recognized for choosing the Most Creative Team Name. Jessica Virden, a member of the Bart Virden & His Kids team, was the judges’ choice as the Most Valuable Player for the evening.

The other five teams in the competition included:

    •    Quiz Bowl Queens (Primarily Pediatrics)
    •    The Oxymorons (Dumas Law Firm)
    •    The Medical Mind Connectors (St. Vincent Morrilton)
    •    Medical Anomalies (Morrilton Medical Clinic)
    •    The Dim Bulbs (Koontz Electric Co. Inc.)

Buddy and Tootsie Hoelzeman.

For their win, the Virden team – including team captain Jessica Virden and members Bryant Virden, Eli Virden and Bart Virden – took home a traveling trophy and bragging rights in the local community.

In addition to watching the show, guests to the event were treated to a Sacred Heart signature meal – spaghetti and sausage dinner, with complimentary beverages throughout the evening.  Sacred Heart Elementary teacher John Taylor served as emcee and former SHS Quiz Bowl Coach Linda Smith acted as moderator.

Dr. Bill and Mary Eggart.

Several door prizes were awarded throughout the evening in exchange for the correct answers to trivia questions from audience members.

All proceeds from the Community Quiz Bowl benefit the Sacred Heart School Annual Fund which helps meet the needs of the school each year.
