18 Jul 2016 Red Curtain to present ‘The Music Man’
Red Curtain Theatre will present Broadway favorite and Tony Award-winning musical “The Music Man” on Saturday, July 23, at the Ozark Heritage Arts Center in Leslie (Searcy County) and Friday, July 29, through Sunday, July 31, at the Snow Fine Arts Center at the University of Central Arkansas.
“The Music Man” is a crowd pleasing musical by Meredith Willson set in the small town of River City, Iowa, in 1912. Traveling salesman “Professor” Harold Hill plans to con townsfolk into paying him to create a boys’ marching band complete with instruments, uniforms and musical instruction, then skip town without completing the deal. His plan is foiled when his deception is revealed and, more significantly, he falls in love with Marian, the town librarian.
AJ Spiridigliozzi will direct Red Curtain Theatre’s performance, which will include local talent such as Johnny Passmore (Harold), Alaina Kizer (Marian, the librarian) and Jeff Ward (Mayor Shinn). The show features such rousing numbers as “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Shipoopi” and “Ya Got Trouble.”
“’The Music Man,’ at its core, is a story that reinforces the power music has to bring people together,” said Spiridigliozzi. “This is a show that has been around for generations and has been widely produced because it is so much fun and something the whole family can enjoy.”
