QQA hosts 51st Spring Tour

The Quapaw Quarter Association (QQA) will host its 51st Spring Tour on Mother’s Day Weekend, May 9-10, in Downtown Little Rock.

The Spring Tour of Homes has been held since 1963 with the purpose of fostering appreciation of historic buildings and neighborhoods and the need for their preservation. The tour was recognized with the Grand Old Classic Special Event Award at the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism’s Henry Awards.

The 51st Spring Tour features old, new and sacred buildings throughout downtown that represent the rich diversity of Little Rock’s Quapaw Quarter; most have never before been on the tour.

"The Spring Tour is our best tool to build pride in historic neighborhoods and encourage continued investment in our city’s architectural heritage" said QQA President Jarrod Johnson. "Revitalization efforts are picking up all over downtown. The Spring Tour is a great way to support and experience Little Rock’s renaissance."

The 51st Spring Tour includes the c. 1917 Firehouse Hostel and Museum at 1201 Commerce St., the 1941 Christ Episcopal Church at 509 Scott St., 1842 Historic Curran Hall at 615 East Capitol Ave., Herron Horton Office/Studio/Residence built in 2008 at 1219 South Spring St., the c. 1890 Haile Cottage at 417 West 13th St., and the 1890s house at 1411 Broadway St.

The 51st Spring Tour includes several weekend events beginning 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, with the Candlelight Tour followed by dinner in Bowen Hall of Christ Episcopal Church. An after-party will follow.

On Sunday, May 10, the Spring Tour will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. and include interior tours of all the buildings. The afternoon tour features live music, trolley rides, food vendors and more. A Sunday Brunch will be held prior to the day tour from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Historic Curran Hall.
