Podcaster to speak at UACCM for women’s history month

Morrilton, AR — The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton is holding an in-person and virtual conversation with prominent podcaster Adena J. White, a host and co-founder of the Blackbelt Voices podcast, to discuss her work sharing stories from the Southern Black Belt. 

The event, part of the college’s celebrations of women’s history month, will be held at noon, March 30, at the Fine Arts Auditorium. White will be appearing as part of the college’s “Talks, Thoughts, & Treats Speaker Series” hosted by the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Throughout the discussion, White will talk about her work with the podcast, what it means to her, and the stories shared.

White is a public relations professional with more than a decade of experience leading communications efforts for nonprofits, including her current work as editor of Conway Publications at the Conway Area Chamber of Commerce. 

In 2017, she founded Blackbelt Media, LLC to help purpose-driven organizations advance progressive social change throughout the South through storytelling. Blackbelt Media produces the Blackbelt Voices podcast, which propagates the richness of Black Southern culture by telling stories about the Black Belt region. Since the podcast launched in 2019, it has been ranked among the Top 100 on Apple Podcasts and has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine and Vanity Fair.

A Conway County native, White was raised in Center Ridge and attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. She later completed a master’s degree in applied communication studies from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She holds the Accredited Public Relations certification and has been active with the Arkansas chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, both serving on the board of directors and as the chapter’s first Black president. This year, she will be inducted into the Arkansas Tech University Hall of Distinction as an outstanding young alumna.

The event is free and open to the general public. Seating in the Fine Arts Auditorium will be socially distanced, and facial coverings will be required for attendees. Refreshments and snacks will be available after the presentation.
