PERRYVILLE: Mustangs ready to buck recent history

Conference: 2-3A
Coach: Ed Baker
’14 Record: 1-9 (1-6)

Despite some tough seasons the last five years, spirits are high in Perryville this fall. The Mustangs return eight starters on each side of the ball and have a team full of seniors that are hungry to succeed.

Senior Dalton Everett returns at quarterback for the Mustangs. The senior is a member of this year’s 501 Football Team.

“Dalton is always a good sport,” said Coach Ed Baker. “He speaks well of opponents and sets a positive example of how to compete hard but still be respectful of others. He is not afraid to help others that compete at his same position. Last season, he led us offensively as our quarterback (his first year to play the position) and was our third leading tackler on defense in limited time at linebacker.”

Junior Lane Clement returns with some experience at running back. Senior Zak Massey returns to lead the receiving corps alongside classmates Casey Devolld, Nick Stell and Noah Spencer. Baker has a bevy of seniors to lead on the offensive line — Robert Halpaine, Derik Boyette, Jacob Hill, Bradley Cox and DJ Ryles.

Senior Trey Patrick, Ryles, Hill and Halpaine start on the defensive line. Everett and Clement bolster the linebackers. Massey, Spencer and Boyett will also see time in the secondary.
