NLR police Chief Thessing retires

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — After 31 years of service, Chief Patrick Thessing recently submitted his letter of retirement to Mayor Terry Hartwick, stating that he was retiring to spend more time with his family. His last day will be June 30.

Under Chief Thessing’s leadership, the City of North Little Rock has implemented the Real-Time Crime Center, expanded the use of technology, and created the Joint Police Academy to grow and sustain our police department. “We wish him well in his retirement and so appreciate his service to our city,” said Mayor Terry Hartwick.

When appointed Chief of Police in January of 2021, Thessing said, “My Dad told me to never forget the ‘human element’ in what you do. A strong leader has to be fair and an excellent problem solver to work with all types of people.”

Thessing served the city in Patrol, Investigations, Training, Professional Standards and Accreditation. In a statement to the entire NLR Police Department, Thessing said, “Titles mean nothing, but humility and striving to always serve others while putting yourself last will carry you far. I leave knowing the agency is strong, and more importantly, that it is filled with amazing people who are committed to their calling. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this team for so many years. It has truly been the honor of my life to serve alongside you.”
